Grandpa Bakken

Well... Grandpa is in the hospital. He has been living with leukemia and undergoing chemo treatments for a while, but in the last 72 hours it has gotten worse. We don't know right now when the Lord is going to call him home but we feel it is going to be soon. He is the rock of the family. A man of God. In fact, one person who knows him swears he has breakfast with Jesus. I agree. Lunch and dinner too!
I feel so blessed to have met him, and for him to be a part of my life, and the lives of Jayden and Brooklyn. Anyone who meets him, after getting a nickname, will agree...he is a man after God's own heart. A man of integrity. A so darn funny. I always smile around him.
Jut, and the rest of the family, just don't want to let him go. We're selfish. We love him too much. Just has been blessed to have grandpa mentor him through a class curriculum at church. They meet every other Thursday. Jut says he has learned more in 3 months with Grandpa than a lifetime without this special time together. He has also been such a rock for us.
How do you say good-bye? How do you say thank you?
I think you do it by the way you choose to live your life. The blessings should pour out in your life. Let people see the difference in you by the way he touched your life. Apply the lessons.
When everything happened to us....the thought of loosing our children prematurely (in our minds), Grandpa was there to comfort us. He lost a son, Tommy, during a surgery to remove his tonsils...I think he was six. He has stood in our shoes. He went on to raise 4 beautiful children...now all Christ followers. He and grandma accepted Christ after Tommy died and look at the ripple effect it had. Our extended family all love the Lord. All because Grandpa and Grandma chose to believe in Him.
You know, we just keep getting hit by the storms....makes me think of the disciples in the boat who witnessed Jesus walking on water...or Jesus sleeping on the boat. It also makes me think of Jesus in the garden of Gethsemane praying before His death. The truth that we continue to hold onto is Jesus. He calms storms. He has felt sorrowful and troubled, He understands doubt, fear, and pain.
But we also keep seeing God work in our brokenness. Making our faith REAL.
I keep learning a lesson...trust me. Take me at my word. This world is not it.
When I look at it from the vantage point of heaven's promises...I can't wait to be there too.
Will you pray with us?
comfort for family
peace in storms
healing if it is God's will to take this cup from Grandpa
thank God for the promise of Heaven
God will be glorified
thank God for grandpa's life and example of Christ he is to everyone he meets
Jesus Calms the Storm
23Then he got into the boat and his disciples followed him. 24Without warning, a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. 25The disciples went and woke him, saying, "Lord, save us! We're going to drown!"
26He replied, "You of little faith, why are you so afraid?" Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm.
27The men were amazed and asked, "What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!"
Walking on the Water
22-23As soon as the meal was finished, he insisted that the disciples get in the boat and go on ahead to the other side while he dismissed the people. With the crowd dispersed, he climbed the mountain so he could be by himself and pray. He stayed there alone, late into the night.
24-26Meanwhile, the boat was far out to sea when the wind came up against them and they were battered by the waves. At about four o'clock in the morning, Jesus came toward them walking on the water. They were scared out of their wits. "A ghost!" they said, crying out in terror.
27But Jesus was quick to comfort them. "Courage, it's me. Don't be afraid."
28Peter, suddenly bold, said, "Master, if it's really you, call me to come to you on the water."
29-30He said, "Come ahead."
Jumping out of the boat, Peter walked on the water to Jesus. But when he looked down at the waves churning beneath his feet, he lost his nerve and started to sink. He cried, "Master, save me!"
31Jesus didn't hesitate. He reached down and grabbed his hand. Then he said, "Faint-heart, what got into you?"
32-33The two of them climbed into the boat, and the wind died down. The disciples in the boat, having watched the whole thing, worshiped Jesus, saying, "This is it! You are God's Son for sure!"
34-36On return, they beached the boat at Gennesaret. When the people got wind that he was back, they sent out word through the neighborhood and rounded up all the sick, who asked for permission to touch the edge of his coat. And whoever touched him was healed.
Garden of Gethsemane
36Then Jesus went with his disciples to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to them, "Sit here while I go over there and pray." 37He took Peter and the two sons of Zebedee along with him, and he began to be sorrowful and troubled. 38Then he said to them, "My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me."
39Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, "My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will."
40Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping. "Could you men not keep watch with me for one hour?" he asked Peter. 41"Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the body is weak."
42He went away a second time and prayed, "My Father, if it is not possible for this cup to be taken away unless I drink it, may your will be done."
43When he came back, he again found them sleeping, because their eyes were heavy. 44So he left them and went away once more and prayed the third time, saying the same thing.
45Then he returned to the disciples and said to them, "Are you still sleeping and resting? Look, the hour is near, and the Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. 46Rise, let us go! Here comes my betrayer!"
